Chocolate easter eggs… mmm. They taste good don’t they. Well I hope that over the Easter period you didn’t indulge too much in that chocolate. I’m not here to be the party pooper, in fact the very reason I want to share this information with you today is so that you can live a happier, more satisfying life.

A treat now and again won’t harm you…. right?

I want to give you a brief word of warning- now this doesn’t apply to everyone, but for some of you I hope that this will give you some life changing help.

SUGAR, WHITE BREAD & OTHER PROCESSED FOOD MAY TRIGGER YOUR DEPRESSION & ANXIETY!

Did you find yourself more anxious, depressed or tied over Easter? Were your moods up and down? Did you fly of the handle for no real good reason?

Have you considered that what you were eating could be the cause?

Sugar, hypoglycemia, depression and fatigue.

It’s possible that the sugar in those Easter Eggs you LOVED over the past weekend could’ve contributing to those changing moods of yours. The sugar gives you an initial ‘high’ only to be followed by a LOW (a low in blood sugars and in mood).

If this sounds like you, watch yourself over the next week. See if you can track whether the food you eat has an effect on your mood. See whether your moods fluctuate after you’ve been eating lots of sugar.

Next time you’re feeling anxious, sad or fatigued ask yourself:

  • What have I eaten in the last hour or two?
  • Have I eaten at all? (could it be that I have low blood sugars?)

A simple thing like sugar could be triggering your anxiety or depression. Keep a track of it!

Next Time

Next time I’ll give you more of a background about low blood sugars and hypoglycemia. We’ll talk about how it could be causing your mood problems- and best of all how to prevent it.

Talk to you then.

All the best

In my last blog I promised that I’d tell you about a natural supplement that can help your sleep.

Melatonin: A Natural Supplement That Helps Improve your Sleep.

Melatonin is a hormonal supplement that assists. It can be taken very safely along most medications including anti-depressants.

Melatonin is the hormone of sleep, and therefore when taken 30 minutes before bed it can help you get to sleep faster, and help you stay asleep. In some countries you need a prescription for it through your doctor, but in other countries like the USA you can buy it at health shops/pharmacies.

What’s the Dose?

The standard dosage range is 0.3-3 mg. To begin with, start with only a small amount of melatonin. More is not always better. Only increase the dose if it’s not helping you enough.

Melatonin has Other Benefits

Melatonin gives your body extra benefits over about it helping your sleep. Melatonin is known as a powerful anti-aging supplement. One of the reasons for this is that it is a strong antioxidant, and helps optimize levels of sex hormones in the body (keeping you young).

Melatonin also fights cancer in many different ways. It’s antioxidant function is just one way that it fights cancer. It helps balance the estrogen hormone in the body, and therefore ladies supplementing with this hormone helps prevent breast cancer. High doses of melatonin (much higher than you take for sleep) are currently being used for the treatment of cancer, with great promise.

Here’s a melatonin product that I trust.

If you Have Depression- how do you detoxify your body?

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Let’s discuss detoxification today.

You may be wondering why I would discuss detoxification in depression. The simple fact is that depression can be caused by a toxin in your body. I’m not saying that it’s the only cause of depression (I know of more than 20 different hormonal, nutritional and biochemical causes)- but toxins in depression is definitely often overlooked.

Last year I started a series on Toxins and Depression, and today I’d like to finish up that topic.

Toxins & Depression

If you didn’t know already, certain toxins can cause depression. These include heavy metals, solvents and pesticides. It’s possible that a toxin is causing your feelings of sadness, anger or fatigue. Those feelings might not have a major psychological cause after all!

You may want to check out my previous blogs which discusses how toxins cause depression, what type of toxins are involved, how your occupation could be involved and lots more.

I’ve also spoken previously about how to avoid toxins, and you can have a look at this blog by clicking this link.

Today I want to continue by discussing the ways to detoxify your body.

How to Detoxify Your Body

There’s three major ways to detoxify the chemicals that can cause depression.
a) Chelation Therapy
b) Support the liver (with supplements & diet)
c) Infrared Sauna

The type of detoxification you choose is going to depend on the type of chemical that you have been exposed to.

Firstly let’s remember that there are three major types of chemicals that can cause depression.

a) Heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic from your body.
b) Solvents
c) Pesticides.

Tools for Detoxification
The major tool for removing heavy metals from the body is chelation therapy. DMSA, DMPS and EDTA are examples of chelating agents. Certain mineral and vitamin supplements also support this process. Note that chelation therapy should only be done under the guidance of a trained health practitioner.

Protecting yourself against solvents would be done by firstly avoiding them, and secondly by supporting the function of the liver. There are important minerals, vitamins and amino acids that help the liver.

Infrared Sauna detoxification is the primary (and only way) to remove pesticides that are stored in the fatty tissues of the body. If you’re wanting to do a infrared sauna detoxification it would be best to read up a lot more about it (the sauna can strip vital minerals from your body and so you need to support it properly). I have starting guidelines in my book, but another great resource is Detoxify or Die, by Sherry Rogers.

Now that’s all for the series on toxins and depression. It’s definitely an overlooked cause of depression, and well worth investigating. But if it isn’t a likely cause of your depression – keep on searching! There’s more than 20 different physical causes of depression- make sure you check them out.

I’ve developed a useful questionnaire that you can use to determine whether there is and what the physical cause of your depression could be. Get your free copy now, but visiting this link.

Let’s talk again soon.

I just wanted to wish you a happy New Year. I hope that you’ve had some great moments with your family, and also some refreshing times over the Christmas, New Year Period.

Is this hard to hear?
If you suffer under the weight of depression this ‘Happy New Year greeting’ may be a little hard to hear, or may be a little uncomfortable for you.

For some of you it might just remind you of the very thing that you desire and long for, a distant memory -happiness- something that seems so out of reach.

Or for those with loved ones who struggle with this burden, it may just bring up those feelings of disappointment of your shattered hopes for them, and the thought of another unbearable year.

My hope for YOUR 2011
Well it is my hope and prayer that 2011 will be different; that this year will bring healing and happiness for you and your family. My heart goes out to all of those who live with depression and anxiety, especially at this time of year.

There is Hope
If you haven’t already investigated the physical causes of depression, I’d like to strongly recommend that you do. Depression can be healed when the physical imbalance is diagnosed and treated specifically. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. It works! (and there’s scientific evidence for it too).

I’ve put some information together, just for you, to explain what the physical causes of depression are- and how they can be treated. You can download your free copy from my breaking free from depression website.

So act now- make 2011 the best year yet. You are worth it, and there is hope.

All the best
